Wings of Desire organizes wokshop on ‘‘Anti Child Labour’

Wings of Desire, an NGO run by students of Aligarh Muslim University today organized a workshop on ‘Anti Child Labour’ at the Department of Education, AMU.

Engineer Ahmad Rais Siddiqui, famous Radio and TV Commentator, Social Worker and the Chief Guest on the occasion said that the problem of Child Labour cannot be eliminated at once rather it needs to be countered gradually and in an efficient manner.

Professor M Parwez, Chairperson, Department of Education and Mr Anil Agarwal, Desh Bandhu Khadi Ashram were the Guests of Honour on the occasion.

While delivering the keynote address, Professor Zaheeruddin, Department of Law, highlighted the rights of children available in our Constitution and also the constitutional provisions regarding Child Labour.

Dr Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson, Department of Social Work, AMU deliberated his views on ‘Right to Education and the elimination of Child Labour.’

During the Workshop children associated with the School project of the Wings of Desire also presented a skit to spread awareness regarding the evil effects of child labour.

Meanwhile, a short documentary related to the concerned issue, which was written and directed by Md Rajesh Ali, member of the Wings of Desire, was also released on the occasion. Professor Ziaur Rahman and Dr Daud S Faruqi from the JN Medical College threw light on the growing issue of Child Abuse as an outcome of Child Labour. Dr Shazia Mansoori, Department of Education urged the young people to develop coordination and work for movement against the issue of Child Labour.

Mr Faizul Hasan, President, AMU Students Union (AMUSU) assured to provide best possible support to the Wings of Desire in its campaign against Child Labour. Mr Sameer Sherwani, President, Wings of Desire informed that the organization is soon going to launch a big campaign against Child Labour.
