ABVP’s DUSU president, Amit Tanwar poses with guns, photo goes viral

A photograph is all over the social media, in which Delhi University Students’ Union president Amit Tanwar, affiliated to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) affiliated with RSS, along with others, is seen ‘posing’ with guns on the varsity premises.

The photograph has kicked a row, and therefore NSUI has demanded a probe into the matter which involves Tanwar, who represents ABVP.

As per reports, the pictures were alleged to be from a ‘memorial service’ for Tanwar’s brother, organised in the DUSU office. On the other hand, Tanwar has claimed that the guns belonged to security officers of one of the guests who had come to pay homage to his social activist brother Pradeep.

Tanwar has claimed that the picture was clicked against his wishes. “At the memorial service, few guests wanted to click a photo and they laid the guns on the table. I refused to get clicked but they went ahead and uploaded them without my knowledge,” Tanwar said.

Demanding probe into the matter, NSUI accused ABVP of destroying the atmosphere of student politics in Delhi University.

“ABVP has vitiated the atmosphere of student politics in DU. NSUI will stage a protest and we demand an inquiry against this and an FIR should be lodged by the university,” Vivekananda Pathak, national secretary, NSUI said.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad had won three out of four seats in the Delhi University elections held recently.
