Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi visits Ayodhya skips disputed Babri Masjid site

Inviting controversy, Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi visited Ayodhya’s Hanumaan-ghari but skipped visit to city’s disputed Babri Masjid land which was some one kilometer away. He became first from Gandhi Family to visit Ayodhya after demolition of Babri Masjid in 1992.

As per sources, Ayodhya was not in the route of ongoing Kisaan Yatra but he decided to visit Hanuman Ghari temple and also to meet Mahant Gyandaas who is fighting case for Ram Mandir in Supreme Court.

According to media reports, Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was the last to visit Ayodhya in 1990. After that many Nehru-Gandhi family members came close to the city but never came here. Be it, Sonia Gandhi or Varun Gandhi.

The Congress leaders say this visit should not be termed as political as it was just a visit to the Temple. Later in the route of Kisaan Yatra, Rahul would be visiting Dargah at Kichaucha Shreef, one of the centres for Sufi Muslims.
