In Delhi, Aam Aadmi Party’s government led by Arvind Kejriwal has suffered a major setback. According to sources, the Election Commission has declared 20 MLAs of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as disqualified holding the office of profit.
In this regard, the EC has sent its report to President Ramnath Kovind. After these legislators were made parliamentary secretaries, their membership came under threat.
Chief Election Commissioner AK Jyoti will retire on January 22, before then he wants to clear all pending cases, so the Commission has decided to deal quickly with the old cases.
However, the ruling AAP is defending itself in the case. The party said that the EC cannot decide the case, the matter should be taken up by the courts.
