Except PM Modi, none of the PMs intervened in Muslim’s personal laws: Zafaryaab Jilani

Reacting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to Muslim community not to politicise the triple talaq issue, All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has again asked government not to interfere in Muslim Personal Law.

Member Executive Committee AIMPLB Zafaryaab Jilani spoke to Whatthebeep.in over the issue and said, “One can see who has politicised the triple talaq issue. Other than Narendra Modi, none of the previous prime ministers like Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi or Atal Bihari Vajpayee never intervened in Muslim’s personal laws. But he has spoken over it several times.”

Notably, while speaking on Basava Jayanti, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people from the Muslim community not to politicise the triple talaq issue and requested them to come forward with a solution.

Jilani also said it has already been made clear that no interference in the Muslim Personal Laws would be tolerated and the community can resolve the issues internally.

Recently, an Executive Committee meeting of AIMPLB was held in which the board has announced several measures to minimise the triple talaq cases. Not only this a code of conduct was released for the Muslims which they should follow before taking decision on divorce.

“We are trying to ensure that none should give triple talaq in one sitting, for such persons a provision of ‘social boycott’ has been made. Along with it, helpline has been opened for Muslim women,” he shared.
