Explosion in Varanasi, five persons, half-a-dozen injured

In an explosion in Varanasi has led to the killing of five persons and injuring more than half-a-dozen. According to the police, the blast was triggered by stockpile of illegal crackers. Two of the dead were identified as Aamna and Sarfaraz, while others are yet to be identified.

A National Disaster Response Force team was at the spot and a search was on to rescue those feared buried under the debris. The incident took place around midnight on Tuesday in a two-storey building near the Pitarkund trisection.

At least two people are still feared buried under the debris, while rescue and relief operations are underway. One woman, who has been rescued is in a critical condition.
