Jignesh Mevani arrested before PM Modi’s Gujarat visit

Dalit activist Jignesh Mevani was arrested from the Ahmedabad airport upon his arrival from Delhi, on Friday. As per report, Mewani has been escorted to an undisclosed location.

Mevani had threatened to spoil Modi’s birthday events in Gujarat on today. Modi arrived in Ahmedabad on Friday evening.

The Prime Minister will be celebrating his birthday with tribals in Limkheda and Navsari on today.

Before being arrested in Ahmedabad, Mevani was in Delhi for a launch of national movement, the Dalit Swabhiman Sangharsh rally, which aims to bring all the Dalits organisation together under one banner.

As per the reports, Mevani’s brother was at the airport to recieve him, during the time of his arrest arrest. The Gujarat police assured him that he would be released after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip is over.

Modi arrived in Gujarat to celebrate his 66th birthday. He will celebrate his birthday with tribals in Limkheda and Navsari on Saturday.

Mevani is the face of Dalit agitation in Gujarat. He became the face after he initiated the ‘Una Chalo Dalit Padyatra’ in the wake of the Una dalits flogging incident in July.
