There are many people in the country who are either unemployed or employed people who are not being paid for months. Our Members of Parliament had hardly ever faced this problem, but this time, some MPs on Holi had been paid two months’ salary instead of one.
According to media reports on Wednesday, some MPs got two months’ salary and when the matter reached the Lok Sabha secretariat, it was reported that the money was deposited due to some mistake was done by State Bank of India.
Earlier, BJP MP Varun Gandhi gave a strong reaction against the increment of MPs’ salary. In a program at a private college in Jaipur, Varun questioned whether a man can raise his salary or decide on his own, if not, how can MPs and MLAs what their salaries should be? He claimed that the salaries of MPs have been increased up to four times in the last six years.
According to media reports, the Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved the proposal to raise the salaries of MPs. The meeting held under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Cabinet gave the green signal for implementation of amendments to the allowance rules from 1st April.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, now MPs will get 70 thousand rupees as election allowance instead of 45 thousand rupees per month. In addition, the amount of office allowance has been increased from 45 thousand rupees to 60 thousand rupees per month. The one-time furniture allowance has been approved to increase from Rs 75 thousand to one lakh rupees.
