Minister, Chairman in tug of war over Waqf Board

The tug of war between Minister of State for Waqf Mohsin Raza and Chairman UP Shia Central Waqf Board (UPSCWB) Waseem Rizvi was intensified after the minister visited board office on a holiday.

On Thursday, there was a festival of shia community (22 Rajab) and the UPSCWB office was closed for it. When the minister went there for inspection, he saw locked doors which made him angry. “I will speak to the Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and suggest to dissovle the board,” said Minister after leaving from board office.

The notice pasted outside the board office ‘Office will remain closed on 22 Rajab’ made the minister angry, he said in the notice it was not mentioned on whose order the holiday was declared.

UPSCWB Chairman Waseem Rizvi has strongly retaliated against the minister. “This was not first time when Holiday for 22nd Rajab declared in the office. This was in practice since 1941. The Minister knew about it despite that he came for inspection with an intent to malign board’s image,” said Rizvi in an official communique.

With plans to move a complaint to Chief Minister and Governor against the minister, he said for some personal reasons to get the board dissolved, the minister is building pressure unnecessarily which is disappointing. I hope that state government will not take baised action on UPSCWB on political reasons.

Recently in bareilly FIRs lodged against him for corruption and alleged sales of Waqf properties. Rizvi moved to High Court for stay order on arresting but the court dismissed the plea. “The term of present UPSCWB is for five years but on false allegations FIR has been lodged against me. I will again move a petition in court against it as earlier the opposite party misleaded the court with wrong facts,” he said.
