Nine devotees killed in Haryana accidents

Nine people, including three children, were killed in two separate accidents in Haryana on Monday, police said.

Seven persons, including two children, were killed and 14 others injured when a pick-up jeep collided head on with a truck in Karnal district.

The jeep was carrying 21 devotees who were coming from Hardwar in Uttarkhand. The accident took place near Dhakwala Gujran village on the Karnal-Meerut highway, police said.

One person died on the spot while six others succumbed to their injuries at a hospital. Two people who were in a serious condition were referred to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh.

In another accident on the Hansi road near Hisar, a woman and a child were killed when their vehicle overturned after hitting a cow.

The victims were from Paharganj in Delhi. They were going for pilgrimage to Rajasthan.

Police said a cow suddenly came on the highway, following which the vehicle collided with it and overturned.
