President Kovind gets emotional while awarding a martyr’s family

On the occasion of Republic Day, President Ramnath Kovind honoured the family member of martyred commando JP Nirala with the highest military award Ashok Chakra. While giving this award, the President got emotional and could not stop his tears.

Martyr commando JP Nirala died in November 2017 during an encounter with militants in Chandergir village of Haigen area of Bandipora district in Kashmir. Security forces had received intel about the presence of terrorists, after which JP Nirala attacked the terrorists and gunned down two terrorists. But he sacrificed his life in this encounter with the terrorists, due to his bravery six Lashkar terrorists gunned down in the encounter, including the nephew of Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Zaki-ur-Rehman Lakhvi.

It may be noted that martyr Nirala was the only son of his parents and he has left behind a four-year-old daughter too. On the occasion of Republic Day, the Nirala was awarded biggest military award Ashok Chakra. His wife Sushmanand and mother Malti Devi received this honour from the President.
After giving this honour, the President could not stop his emotions and after giving the award, he took out the handkerchief wiped the tears.
According to the media reports, Nirala’s father Tejnarayan said that JP Nirala was his only son, but he feels proud that he was martyred for the country and the government recognize his sacrifice and honoured him.
