It was not a bad day for Indian Badminton team at the Olympics. Kidambi Srikant defeated Jan Jorgensen of Denmark in a hard fought victory by defeating Jorgensen in straight sets 21-19, 21-19. Srikant became India’s second male badminton player to qualify for quarter finals in Olympics.
Later, PV Sandhu stormed her way to quarter finals after beating 8 seeded Tai Tzu-ying of Chinese Taipei in straight sets 21-13,21-15. The match lasted for 40 minutes and Sindhu dominated it.
There was also some disappointment in India’s Olympic campaign when boxer Vikas Yadav crashed out of the Olympics after being defeated by Bektemir Melikuzeiv 30-27, 30-25, 30-27 in their quarter final clash.
India hasn’t won a single medal in this year’s Olympics. But with Sandhu, Srikant looking impressive, there’s a strong possibility of winning some.
