Parliament’s Monsoon Session witnessed ruckus in Rajya Sabha after Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal allegedly linked Hindu gods to alcohol brands on Wednesday. The BJP MPs demanded immediate action against Agarwal.
While the debate on increase in lynching cases was taking place, Naresh Agarwal made controversial remarks which led to protest by BJP MPs in the house. They started shouting slogans, “Devtaon ka apmaan nahi chalega“.
Commenting on this, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said you would have been liable to prosecution had you spoken this outside the House. He demanded an apology from Agarwal.
Adding more into the BJP’s protest, another SP MP Ram Gopal Yadav said, “Naresh Agarwal will not apologise even if entire session is wiped out.”
Congress MP Anand Sharma said, “This is a serious issue and Agarwal has already withdrawn his remarks. It should end.” Slamming protesting BJP members, he said do not try to become ‘Dharm ke Thekedars’, those were our Gods too.
Failing to come up with a solution, Deputy Speaker Rajya Sabha decided to adjourn the house till 4 pm.
