Supreme Court serves notice to Maha government over complete beef ban

Maharashtra Government has received notice from the apex court on complete ban on beef, which was upheld by the Bombay High Court in May earlier this year.

This notice was issued after a petition was filed by 36 beef dealer’s associations in Maharashtra, challenging the Bombay High Court order of upholding the ban on slaughter of cows and bullocks.

The apex court struck the section which criminalizes possession of beef brought from a state where slaughtering of cows and bullocks is legal.

The hearing for this case will resume after six weeks.
