Tipu Sultan’s picture in Delhi Assembly sparks controversy

In the Delhi assembly, a new controversy has sparked with a photograph of Tipu Sultan being installed with other freedom fighters in the gallery. The purpose of putting these photographs was to tell people about these revolutionaries.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia unveiled these photos on the occasion of Republic Day, but BJP MLAs have opposed the placing of Tipu Sultan’s picture there.

A few days ago, BJP legislator OP Sharma, who had said that by putting up the picture of Tipu Sultan in Assembly gallery, has hurt the sentiments. Tipu Sultan is a disputed topic, why the AAP government used his pictures with other revolutionaries. I will take up this matter in the assembly in the Assembly.

On the other side, Delhi Speaker Ram Niwas Goyal, said that it is a matter of pride for us to install the picture of Tipu Sultan because he declared war against the British empire. BJP’s opposition indicates their narrow mindset.

Goyal, referring to a page of the Constitution, said that in one page the photos of Rani Lakshmibai and Tipu Sultan are together, when those who wrote and approved the Constitution had no objection, then who is the BJP?
