Moving a step further, Indian Railways has decided to upgrade the train enquiry system in coming days. The railways plan to install a GPS based Passenger Information System (PIS) in important trains soon.
Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhu in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha informed that Indian Railways is planning to install GPS based Passenger Information System (PIS).
Installation of GPS based display boards will give the exact location of the train, unlike earlier when the information would only be provided when it crossed a major station. Initially, these displays will only be set up in important mail/expresses in about 300 rakes in a phased manner. Currently the only train to have such GPS based Passenger Information System is the Gatimaan Express.
