Even though the Bharatiya Janata-led central government has made big promises for farmers in the general budget, but till 2022 the farmers will hardly enjoy the benefits.
Still, the farmers burdened under big debts are committing suicides. One such case came up in Mahoba district of Uttar Pradesh, where the farmer fed up with big debt jumped into the well and gave up his life.
The farmer, Hardayal had a loan of Rs 1 lakh. Hardayal had borrowed ₹ 72 thousand from the bank, which went on growing and reached Rs 1 lakh. Even though he came under loan waiver scheme but his debt was not waived, after which he committed suicide under pressure to repay it.
As soon Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath came into in UP, he talked of giving Rs 37,000 crore for loan waiver of the farmers, but the promise did not turn out beneficial to the farmers. Many farmers got the cheque worth ₹9 to ₹100 in the name of loan waiver.
Once again in the general budget, the Modi government has promised that the income of the farmers would be doubled by 2022 and also of giving more than one and a half times more support price, but there is still time in it.
