Lok Sabha by-elections will be held in Phulpur and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh this month. These two seats became vacant after deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, resigned from Lok Sabha.
Now for defeating BJP, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Chief Mayawati had decided to support Samajwadi Party by not fielding any candidate from her party.
Before the election results of Tripura yesterday, speculations were being made that Samajwadi Party and Bahujan Samaj Party will join hands for by-polls. This was confirmed soon after results of three states were announced. The BSP has announced to give support to the SP in by-elections.
It is believed that this coalition can prove to be decisive. Now the BSP will support the Samajwadi Party candidates in Gorakhpur and Phulpur. Voting will take place on March 11 for Gorakhpur and Phulpur bye-elections. The results declared on March 14.
Earlier too in the mid-90s, there was a historic alliance between the SP-BSP in the state headed by Mulayam Singh Yadav. However, this coalition government lasted for one and a half years only. Mayawati withdrew support from the government on June 2, 1995, and Mulayam Singh’s government fell in minority.
Now after nearly 25 years, this coalition will challenge BJP, and on the other hand CM Yogi will prove his popularity in Gorakhpur through this election.
