Yogi govt likely to withdraw cases against BJP leaders accused in Muzaffarnagar riots

Bhartiya Janta Party ruled UP government has sought information on withdrawing 9 pending cases against the BJP leaders in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots case.

It may be noted that in 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots cases were registered against Minister Suresh Rana, former central minister Sanjeev Baliyan, MP Bhartendu Singh, MLA Umesh Malik and BJP leader Sadhvi Prachi.

Principal Secretary law Rajesh Singh has sent a letter to Muzaffarnagar District Magistrate on January 5 seeking information on 13 points which includes withdrawal public interest cases too. Along with DM, SSP Muzaffarnagar have also been asked to send the report on it.

However, the names of accused BJP leaders are not mentioned in the letter but the file numbers of the cases registered against them have been mentioned.

Notably, the Muzaffarnagar communal riots took place in 2013, in which more than 60 people died and 40,000 were displaced.
